Hazardous Placards on intermodal shipments to / from USA 18/11/2009

Please be informed that as per FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) regulations, containers transporting hazardous materials on the US rail network must be properly labeled and the placards clearly visible on all 4 sides of the container. Please see below all the rules listed:
 
  • side mounted hazardous placards must be located in the area that is:


    *
    at least one foot (30 cm) from the top of the equipment

    * at least five feet (150 cm) from the equipment’s bottom

    * at least five feet (150 cm) from the equipment's end to ensure visibility


    • end placards must be located with the same top and bottom placement restrictions
    • once a hazardous shipment is unloaded and no longer contains hazardous commodities - hazardous markings, labels or placards must be completely removed

    For any box moving in USA via RAIL where placards will not be affixed, incorrectly placed or not removed after stripping, shipper and / or consignee will be subject to a fine of USD 210 per container.
